Girls and Boys come out to play….

Things hadn’t gone quite according to plan. We were back in Phuket because the second belt that had been fitted with our new Balmar alternator and smart regulator work had gone Kaput!
Mr Wiwat whose electricians had installed the new set up, could not have been more apologetic. He had thought by installing a second belt and pulley he would save us money and it would work fine but realised when it went wrong that the more expensive option of a special Yanmar serpentine pulley and belt kit was the better choice.

We had to wait a few days for the kit to arrive but as always there was plenty to do (check-in at Immigration and Customs at Ao Chalong again, more boat jobs to do and an excellent visit to the most important of the 29 buddhist temples in Phuket, Wat Chalong.)

The temple at Ao Chalong
Buddha, Buddha, everywhere!

Plenty of “bling” decorating this part of the temple.

We were also fortunate to witness the full “super”  moon – which in November was at it’s closest closest point to Earth in almost 69 years. It was the biggest and brightest moon in our entire lifetime! The full moon won’t come this close to Earth again until Nov. 25, 2034.

Captured that moon before the clouds came over
Fortunately we were able to enjoy bathing in the moonlight and remembering the children’s rhyme “Girls and Boys come out to play the moon doth shine as bright as day”. We even managed to get some photos before the clouds spoiled our view.

Once the belt and pulley kit arrived Mr Wiwat and his team worked quickly and efficiently to install it and get everything working again.

They say every cloud has a silver lining and returning to Rebak meant we had the pleasure of meeting up with a few of our fellow Sail2Indonesia rally participants some of whom we hadn’t seen for a while – Sandy and Brian from Persephone, Chris and Rod from Smart Choice, Mike and Jill from Yantara, and Richard and Marilyn from Charon.

And then it was time to leave again. Another visit to Ao Chalong to check-out (no fees or bonds this time!) and off we went hoping for a quick trip to Langkawi in time to meet our boat visitors arriving from Brisbane.

Dear Dot and Jonathan, HAPPY CHRISTMAS! I thoroughly enjoy your posts from Bali Hai – the next best thing to travelling myself! I believe you are in India with Hannah for Christmas, so hope you have a wonderful time. We have Tom and Sally with their partners and Barney 2.5 yrs and Violet 2.25 yrs, so it should be lively. Marcus and partner Oli, with Louis 4.5 yr and Ivor 1.5 yr have gone to Melbourne for a few weeks to join Oli’s brother and family. We are going to Broadstairs to spend New Year with Julia, Sarah and Martin, so that will be good fun. lots of love to you both, and more happy sailing. Lorely and Peter xxx

    1. Lorely thanks so much! Belated Merry Christmas to you too and a very Happy New Year too. Apologies for not replying sooner it really has been hectic and we have had very poor wifi as we travel round. In Jodphur at the moment and loving it. Also been to Amritsar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer (spent a night in the desert doing a camel safari) and off to Pushkar tomorrow. Amazing! Hope you enjoyed Christmas with all the family, especially the little ones! New Year in Broadstairs must have been fun too! You are welcome to visit us – maybe you and Julia could come together?!
