Things are moving fast! Our beautiful identical twin granddaughters have been making excellent progress with many milestones achieved.
In a very important step forward Eva was put onto high flow oxygen and after stabilising was moved from the Neonatal Intensive Care to the Neonatal High Dependency Unit (the stage before the Special Care Ward) on 10 July.

This was the first time the girls had been separated since they were born and meant that Ben and Sarah had to care for one baby at a time or split up and look after one baby each. A difficult adjustment but some twin cuddles helped everyone (when things weren’t too busy to move Eva and her equipment back to Intensive Care for a visit.)

A while later and Matilda’s CPAP was also taken away and at last the little helmet and the bulky lines were no longer needed. She was put on to high flow oxygen and once settled it was then her turn to move up to the Neonatal High Dependency Unit. By that time, however, Eva had graduated to low flow oxygen and had been transferred to Special Care – so they were still separated.

During this time the babies were both introduced to feeding by mouth having been exclusively fed via a gastric tube since they were born. Suckling was quite an effort for them and made them very tired, especially at first.

Eva and Matilda also had their first bath (Eva on 5 July and Matilda’s on 25 July. ) An experience they both absolutely loved.

What an awesome and exciting time it has been for the twins – and us! In more exciting news Hannah, Pieter and our darling eight month old granddaughter arrived from the Netherlands. What a reunion!

Meanwhile, just before our Dutch family members’ arrival we went to see our modular house which was being made by Hoek Homes. It was all but finished and it looked amazing! More excitement!

Then on 30 July the big day arrived – our house arrived on site at Ben and Sarah’s! Such an amazing experience and one which I will elaborate on next time.
