Our return to Australia was full of joyful celebrations – first with Mother’s Day, then with our granddaughters Eva and Matilda’s birthday and a few day’s later a big party for the twins to celebrate not just their birthday but the whole wonderful miracle of their birth, survival and continuing healthy development.
What a wonderful Mother’s Day we had at Ben and Sarah’s (our son and daughter-in-law) with Sarah’s Mum and Dad and the girls of course – a particularly special time as it was Sarah’s first Mother’s Day (last year, it fell just two days before she gave birth to the twins.)
It was such an amazing day as both the girls thoroughly enjoyed the celebrations. They especially loved all the food and it was such a pleasure to see them not just eating solid food but really relishing every mouthful. It seemed miraculous that in the short time we’d been away in the Netherlands they had gone from refusing to take bottles (and reliant on feeding tubes) to guzzling everything (including heaps of milk) in sight.
Just a few day’s later it was the twin’s first birthday (although developmentally they were nine months corrected). Again we had a fantastic celebration and the girls had an excellent time opening gifts and eating a special birthday cake that Sarah had made them.
There were more celebrations the following day when Jonathan and I went to meet our close friends’ (Peter and Cathy) newest and very sweet little granddaughter. Her Mum Tilly is also our daughter’s (Hannah) best friend.
The following weekend Ben and Sarah organised a big celebration for the twin’s birthday. It was a wonderful day with family and Ben and Sarah’s closest friends and it was particularly special as due to their premature birth and their stay of 138 days (four and a half months!) in hospital and then finally being home but with Matilda on oxygen and both babies on feeding tubes, there had been no time to celebrate their arrival properly.
It was an amazing party and so wonderful to celebrate Eva and Matilda’s arrival at last, as well as the first anniversary of their birth.
