Gin clear water, and spicy times ahead

We were overwhelmed by the wonderful welcome we had received in Debut Island but by the time our last couple of days on the island approached we were completely exhausted!

Poor Jonathan felt totally washed out after his tummy upset so we had a very quiet day before we set off for our next destination – the Banda Islands.

We hired a car and driver and first went to look at some nearby caves. They were amazing – the water in them was gin clear and a stunning turquoise blue.

It was so lovely to be able to wander at will and not have signs, safety fences, guides and rules.

After a wander round the caves we went to a great market in Tual where we bought some beautiful fruit and vegetables – tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, aubergines, mandarins, bananas – and some beer and bread.

We were looking forward to getting back to sailing even though we had a truly wonderful time in Debut Island
On Friday 31 July at first light, we departed for the two day/one night trip to Banda – the famed Spice Islands.

Salty tales from Bali Hai

In 2015, after a break from cruising of almost 30 years, my husband and I sailed off into the sunset - this time to the wonderful Islands of Indonesia and beyond. Three years passed and we swapped sails for wheels driving through Scandinavia and Europe in a motor home. Now we are on the brink of another adventure - buying a Lagoon 420 Catamaran in Athens. This is our story.

Thanks for your review on The Children Act – you write so well, you should try to write more than Salty Tales! I am enjoying reading your tales.

  2. Sorry to hear that Jonathan has been poorly, but it sounds as if it gave you a welcome excuse to have a quiet time together. My theory is that the Vice-Regent took a fancy to Dot and decided to try to bump Jonathan off! Hope the next sail goes well -_lots of love, Julia xxxj

  3. Glad to hear that Jonathan is now in better health. Not a great start to the land based activities. Sounds as though you are having a wonderful adventure
